Working with my friend, Kate Young, who wrote the Zine, I did the design. Together we both conducted research in the form of spoken interviews, surveys, reading academic journals as well as several books to guide our conceptualization of the Zine.
This zine was inspired by the amount of unspoken sexual assault occuring on my college campus, BYU. Although, it was meant for my creative projects class, my professor said that as a BYU student, I should not make something like this, fearing of any negative repercussions that would likely occur. So, my best friend and I poured our hearts into research, surveys, books, heartfelt conversations with brothers, fathers and friends. The conversation between men and women in Provo about something so taboo, became lighter, and our community became closer, bonding over the shared sadness that is toxic masculinity and the sexual assault culture that stems from it.
